NBTC tackles bandwidth jam

2 stations would cease analogue broadcasting

- +

The 700-megahertz band will come under global compliance after the return of the 470-MHz spectra if two free TV stations stop their analogue broadcast operations, says a key regulator.

Col Natee Sukonrat, head of the broadcasting committee at the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), said the committee has assembled a team to find a solution for the 700-MHz band, which is designed to be used for mobile broadband service in 2020.

To solve the issue, the 470-510 MHz band must be reallocated from existing holders, representing more than 10 agencies such as TOT, the Provincial Electricity Authority and the armed forces.
