Economists suggest the government should accept the reality that 4% economic growth is an ambitious target, while they disagree with business leaders' calls for a stimulus package.
"The government needs at least 65.6 billion baht further in public spending this year if it wants the economy to reach the 4% growth target. We have to admit that target is very ambitious under the current circumstances," Sakon Varanyuwatana, an economics lecturer at Thammasat University, said yesterday.
Public spending under the fiscal-2013 budget has been disbursed at 450 billion baht, while 4% growth will be achieved if public investment reaches 516 billion.
