Rice farmers are not satisfied with new rice pledging prices approved by cabinet yesterday, Wichian Puanglamjiak, chairman of the Thai Farmers Association, said on Wednesday.
The new pledging prices are not in line with farmers’ demands, Mr Wichian said, adding that representatives of farmers’ networks in several provinces will discuss the lower than expected prices with Deputy Commerce Minister Yanyong Phuangrach Thursday, Sept 5.
"The pledging price of 13,000 baht a tonne for off-season paddy in 2014 is unacceptable for rice farmers. We had asked for 14,000 baht per tonne.
