Japan still sitting out on Dawei project

Japan has renewed its position on Dawei, saying Tokyo needs more studies on the megaproject being pushed by Thailand and Myanmar before committing to take part. 

“Japan needs more information before making the decision on whether the country will join the project,’’ Arkhom Termpitthayapaisith, the National Economic and Social Development Board secretary-general said after a meeting in Yangon.

More time was needed due to the large scale of the investment in Dawei on infrastructure and industrial development, he said.
