The Ministry of Finance is keeping a close watch for fluctuations in exchange rates and in the financial markets caused by the government shutdown in the United States, Finance Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong said on Wednesday.
The minister said he did not expect the situation in the US would have any serious affect on Thailand because there was no panic evident in global or Asian capital markets, or in the US itself.
It was not the first time this had occurred and he expected that the US president and the congress would jointly settle the problem in a week or two. If the political conflict was quickly resolved, it would have no impact on Thailand at all.
