TV coupon plan to be postponed

TV coupon plan to be postponed

The distribution of digital TV subsidy coupons may be postponed to late June or early July, as the regulator has not finalised the plan's details or coupon value.

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) could not conclude the coupon's value and distribution plan for proposal to the board on Wednesday.

Col Natee Sukonrat, chairman of the NBTC’s broadcasting committee, said the board wanted to ensure that the coupons for digital TV would be transparent.

The issue concerning whether pay TV operators could get subsidy coupons is still pending consideration.

If pay TV operators want to get subsidy coupons, they are required to meet three conditions.

These include that their channel numbers from 1-36 must be the same as digital TV set-top boxes, while their boxes must support high-definition broadcasts.

Set-top boxes must also be owned by coupon holders regardless of whether their subscription contracts have expired.
