Chairmen to be vetted by Sepo, NCPO

The State Enterprise Policy Office (Sepo) will this week submit nominations for new chairmen of PTT Plc and Krungthai Bank (KTB) to ACM Prajin Juntong, head of the economic team at the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).

Rungson: Sepo to oversee screening

The nominees will replace those who recently stepped down to pave the way for a planned board shake-up by the junta.

Sepo is overseeing the screening process for nominations of the new chairmen, said finance permanent secretary Rungson Sriworasat.

ACM Prajin will later forward the names to the NCPO's chief, Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha, for approval.

After last month's military takeover, changes at state enterprise boards had been highly anticipated.

The movement gained steam when the junta scrapped free-flight benefits for Thai Airways International board members.

Several chairmen and heads of state enterprises have stepped down since the coup, starting with the former head of ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra's security team, Pol Maj Gen Attagrit Tharechat, who quit as director-general of the Government Lottery Office.

Sqn Ldr Sita Divari, known to be close to the Shinawatra family, stepped down as chairman of AoT earlier this month, while former deputy Pheu Thai Party leader Pranpree Bahiddha-Nukara resigned abruptly on Sunday from his chairmanship of national oil and gas firm PTT.

Former Budget Bureau director Voravidh Champeeratana quit as KTB's chairman on Monday.

Athapol Yaisawang, the former attorney-general who was recently shunted to an inactive post in the Prime Minister's Office, resigned as a PTT independent director yesterday.

Other resignations this week included Waroonthep Watcharaporn, who quit as a PTT independent director and member of the audit committee, and Norkun Sitthiphong, a former energy permanent secretary, who gave up his chairmanship of PTT affiliate Thai Oil Plc.
