Lamptan sees the light

Lamptan Lighting Technology Co is focusing more on its LED business after seeing the potential for annual sales growth of 30%.

Director Kijsada Chaisanguanmitt said the company’s first-half LED sales grew by 150% year-on-year, while they are expected to rise 30% annually over the next few years as the overall lighting market grows by 15-20%.

"LED products are in high demand, as they have a longer lifespan and consume less energy than conventional light bulbs and lamp products," he said.

They make up around 10% of Lamptan's sales and are expected to rise to 50% in the next three to five years.

This year the company expects its total sales will reach 1 billion baht, on a par with last year even though sales in the first half fell as the economy slumped.

About 60% of sales will be in Thailand, with the rest comprising exports, mainly to Europe.

Mr Kijsada said the overall lighting market is projected to pick up by 15-20% in the third quarter after declining in the first half when people delayed their purchases of light bulbs and lighting products.

Lamptan will focus on developing new products with high specifications and functions this year.

The Lamptan brand has a 30% share of the lighting market.

Lighting producers are joining hands with the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) to promote the use of LED bulbs and energy-saving lighting products among consumers.

The PEA and N.C.C. Management & Development will organise EcoLightTech Asia 2014 at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok, Nov 12-24.

The event features LED products useful for factories and new eco-friendly lighting technology to help farmers and chicken growers. The organiser expects 5,000 to 8,000 visitors, with 100 exhibitors showcasing their products.

The PEA plans to launch an energy-saving campaign to encourage households to use less electricity. Households that reduce their consumption may be eligible for a two-baht discount per Ft unit.
