Jeju on Jet Asia's radar

Jet Asia Airways will in September resume daily charter flights from Bangkok to Jeju in South Korea to meet seasonal leisure travel demand after the flights were suspended last month.

The resumption is geared particularly towards outbound passengers from Bangkok wanting to holiday on the popular resort island.

The Bangkok-Jeju service, served by Boeing 767 wide-body jets, will run only until year-end to reflect peak travel demand, said managing director Chairat Sangchan.

Bangkok-based Jet Asia launched the daily flights to Jeju on May 9.

In September, the airline will also relaunch its service from Bangkok to Tokyo's Narita airport, which was also suspended last month, but as a regularly scheduled flight rather than a charter service.

It will offer four flights a week using a Boeing 767 before ramping up to a daily basis eventually.

A good part of its business is inbound tourist traffic from China to Bangkok and Phuket.

Meanwhile, Jet Asia has entered into a partnership with EuroAtlantic Airways to provide its aircraft, crew and related services to the Lisbon-based airline on a "wet lease" basis.

One of Jet Asia's B767s has already been operating for EuroAtlantic in Europe and Africa. The Thai airline is dispatching a second aircraft, the 767-300ER, to the Portuguese carrier.
