The Budget Bureau plans to earmark tens of billions of baht in the fiscal 2015 budget for infrastructure project investment.

Director Somsak Chotrattanasiri said the total investment value of infrastructure development is uncertain, but dual track railways, three electric mass-transit lines in Greater Bangkok and four-lane roads are expected to be the initial investment projects, while a high-speed train scheme worth 800 billion baht will be frozen.

The transport strategy committee recently cut the eight-year investment through 2022 to 2.4 trillion baht.

The three electric train lines are the Orange Line from the Thailand Cultural Centre to Min Buri, the Pink Line from Khae Rai to Min Buri and the Yellow Line from Lat Phrao to Samut Prakan.

The junta recently endorsed the budget for fiscal 2015 starting this Oct 1 at 2.575 trillion baht, while the government's revenue collection was estimated at 2.325 trillion, leaving a deficit of 250 billion, the same level as this year.

The 2015 investment budget amounts to 450 billion, 17.5% of the total. He said 910 billion baht would be set aside for spending on construction design and expropriation of 11 new routes of dual-track rails.

A Finance Ministry source said the annual budget, borrowing and public-private partnerships would all be used to fund the infrastructure investment.
