Petrol prices may drop 1-4 baht

Petrol prices could drop one to almost four baht a litre if the excise tax is brought in line with global fuel prices.

Numerous social-media posts calculated that a cut in the excise tax will result in a per-litre decrease of 3.89 baht for benzene 95, 2.12 baht for gasohol 95 by, 1.86 baht for gasohol 91, and 1 baht for E20 gasohol. However the price of diesel will increase by 0.14 baht a litre.

The National Energy Policy Council meets today to consider the excise-tax issue.

Meanwhile, Pongchai Chaichirawiwat, executive vice-president of Bangchak Petroleum Plc, admitted that the Department of Energy Business had asked oil traders to cut the price of benzene, but there must be stock checks first to determine the final price.
