MR Pridiyathorn submitted his resignation letter on Thursday, the firm said.

The resignation means he effectively ends his role of Post chairman.

The former Bank of Thailand governor is widely tipped to be a deputy prime minister overseeing economic policy for the government of Prime Minister Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha. He is chief economic advisor of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).

Several candidates tipped to be in the cabinet resigned from their respective positions on Thursday, including Narongchai Akrasanee, Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul and Rajata Rajatanavin of the National Legislative Assembly. The three are expected to be in the cabinet line-up.
