BEC World wants review of resolutions

BEC World Plc, the operator of Channel 3, submitted a proposal to the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) yesterday asking for a review of the resolution that would soon turn the analogue channel’s screen black.

NBTC secretary-general Takorn Tantasit said it would be considered by his agency's board next Wednesday.

He said the proposal comprised three main topics. The first asks the regulator to review Monday's resolution by the NBTC’s broadcasting committee requesting satellite and cable TV operators to stop broadcasting analogue Channel 3 on their platforms within 15 days after receiving a letter from the NBTC.

The second topic is to revise the Feb 3 resolution that clarified analogue channels must end their free status, while the last issue seeks to protect Channel 3 until the broadcasting dispute is resolved.

The NBTC will ask its legal department whether the NBTC board can review the committee resolutions.

Channel 3 risks facing a blackout after the committee’s 3-2 vote on the resolution on Monday.

The free status of analogue Channel 3 ended on Sept 1.

Channel 3 is the only analogue channel that does not want to migrate its content to air digitally via a simulcast like the other five channels have done already.
