KTC RSVPs to attend your wedding ceremony

Credit-card leader Krungthai Card Plc (KTC) plans a serious penetration of the wedding market as it looks to add more value for cardholders amid fierce business competition next year.

KTC wants to see all hotel partners offer special room rates and wedding packages for its cardholders. The wedding market has high potential, as the bride and groom will spend a lot on the marriage ceremony and party as well as the honeymoon.

The hotel offerings will attract cardholders to choose wedding packages and pay by KTC credit cards, said Prym Panyasereeporn, vice-president for travel and leisure marketing.

The recent launch of two credit cards — the KTC X-signature card and the KTC Fico card — is expected to boost plastic card spending, especially among lucrative high-end customers.

The two cards will drive new revenue for KTC next year as it seeks to reach 15 billion baht or 15% growth from this year.

Tourism is the second-biggest spending area for KTC cardholders. It has 1.7 million cardholders, and they spend the most on fuel, representing 10% of total spending, followed by groceries and travel, which sit at 8%.

As of Oct 31, total spending via KTC credit cards for hotels including room reservations and hotel dining was more than 3 billion baht.

The company expects the amount to reach 3.6 billion this year thanks to the onset of the high season tourism.

"Spending on travel started picking up in the third quarter, so we're confident about spending ahead of the high season," Ms Prym said.

Tourism was hit hard by the political crisis in the first half of this year, as many people delayed their trips.

Ms Prym said 2015 spending on domestic travel by KTC cardholders would be dramatically higher than this year.

Spending at hotels in this year's first half was quite low due to the political problems.

KTC has more than 600 hotel partners signed up.

The company recently launched a promotion called "Magical Celebrations with KTC" to increase spending in the high season by offering a maximum discount of 50% for rooms and food at more than 60 hotels and resorts nationwide.

This campaign will be important for KTC as it focuses offers to cardholders during the holiday season for New Year celebrations, with special hotel room rates nation wide.

The company hopes the campaign will encourage more Thais to increase their travel inside the country.

It expects card spending on travel will rise by 10-15% during the campaign.
