JWD to launch Chon Buri centre soon

JWD InfoLogistics Co expects its new dangerous goods logistics centre to start operations in the first quarter, says chief executive Charvanin Bunditkitsada.

The centre includes a warehouse with space for inventory of 10,000 square metres. It has been specially built to prevent pollution and contamination of chemical and hazardous goods stored there.

JWD, a subsidiary of JVK Group, spent 300 million baht to build the centre near Laem Chabang deep sea port in Chon Buri. The company is a logistics provider for dangerous goods, food and cold-chain goods.

The warehouse will store dangerous goods for import and export including flammable chemical products.

The automotive, petrochemical, textile and garment and electronics industries use dangerous goods.

JWD has been awarded a concession by the Port Authority of Thailand as sole logistics provider for dangerous substances at Laem Chabang port.

The company handles 75% of logistics services for dangerous goods in the country. This year it has handled 140,000 containers or 3.5 million tonnes.

The 30-year concession lasts until 2034 and JWD has the right to renew the concession twice for a further five years each time.

The warehouse will serve industrial growth in Thailand and neighbouring countries such as Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos.

The demand for dangerous goods has been growing every year even in times of economic slowdown. In 2013, the volume of dangerous goods had growth of 2-3%.

JWD estimates its 2014 revenue will reach 2.9 billion baht, up from 2.6 billion baht in 2013. It expects growth of 10% in 2015 .

"The Asean market is an opportunity for JWD because logistics demand will rise in line with the expansion of trade volume in the whole region once the Asean Economic Community takes place," said Mr Charvanin.

JWD recently completed a chemical goods warehouse in Yangon, Myanmar, that will be ready for service in 2015. It may also build another Myanmar warehouse in Thiwala.

"But this one may start construction some years ahead. We will first invest in countries where we don't have a facility," said Mr Charvarnin.

The company expects to invest 500 million baht in new warehouses in Cambodia and Laos next year.

"The the next step will be to look at Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia in 2016," said Mr Charvarnin.

JWD's annual revenue from Asean countries excluding Thailand now stands at 100 million baht.
