UK keen on infrastructure projects

The United Kingdom has showed interest in infrastructure investment projects in Thailand, Transport Minister Prajin Juntong said on Thursday.

UK ambassador to Thailand Mark Kent met the minister to express UK interestin investing in several projects, including track improvement, Suvarnabhumi airport and deep-sea ports.

The UK is the latest country wanting to compete for investments in Thailand which plans to overhaul its transport and other infrastructure systems. China, Japan and South Korea are also keen on the massive projects.

China is the first country to be awarded a train project, laying a line from Nong Khai province to the Map Ta Phut port in Rayong province and Bangkok, to be built with the 1.435 metre gauge.

ACM Prajin said he informed the ambassador about other plans including more train lines, the expansion of Suvarnabhumi and new ports planned for Satun and Songkhla provinces.
