The Bank of Thailand plans to name a new governor to succeed Prasarn Trairatvorakul even though under the present administration his term could be extended. His term is set to expire on Sept 30.

Under normal practice, the selection committee would find a new governor by the end of June, Mr Prasarn said.

Mr Prasarn has worked as the governor since October 1, 2010.

The finance minister is currently working on finding members for the selection committee.

Three of the seven central bank board members' terms will expire next month including chairman Ampon Kittiampon, who served two terms consecutively. The central bank's regulations allow board members and executives to stay two consecutive terms maximum.

Separately, the Bank of Thailand has introduced a commemorative banknote yesterday in celebration of tomorrow's 60th birthday of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

The public can ask for the special notes at all banks starting from April 2.
