VietJet adds flight on busy Bangkok route

VietJet, the budget airline of Vietnam, will add a third daily service between Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City to meet strong demand.

The added frequency is scheduled to commence on May 18, raising the weekly seat capacity on the route to 7,560, according to the airline's statement.

The additional services will see VietJet flights departing Ho Chi Minh City's Tan Son Nhat airport at 8.30am, 11.15am and 2.15pm. The return flights will depart from Suvarnabhumi airport at 11.30am, 1.50pm and 7.55pm.

The flight time is one hour and 30 minutes each way.

VietJet also announced a plan to increase its daily frequency for its Singapore-Ho Chi Minh City route starting on May 30.

The low-cost carrier currently operates 150 flights a day with a fleet of 22 Airbus A320 jets and one Airbus A321 across 28 routes in Vietnam and regionally in Singapore, Thailand, South Korea, Taiwan and Cambodia.

VietJet plans to take delivery of six to 12 Airbus aeroplanes each year.

A Thai offshoot, Thai VietJet Air (TVJA), has postponed its planned launch but still hopes to get off the ground later this year.

TVJA's initial routes will include Bangkok to Phuket, with Udon Thani and Krabi to follow, along with international service between the Thai capital and Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City.
