State revenue slightly better than hoped

The government's revenue in the first seven months of the 2015 fiscal year exceeded its target by 15.5 billion baht thanks to contributions by state enterprises.

Krissada Jinawijarana, director-general of the Fiscal Policy Office, said Monday that from October to April, the government earned 1.14 trillion baht, a year-on-year increase of 6.2% and 1.4% above projections.

State enterprises contributed 100.77 billion baht to government coffers in the period. The figure exceeded the target by 25 billion baht or 33.1%, thanks to contributions by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, PTT Plc, Government Savings Bank, TOT and the Expressway Authority of Thailand.

Meanwhile, contribution from the Revenue Department was 47.7 billion baht short of its target. The Customs Department also came in 2.99 billion baht below projections due to weaker-than-expected imports, which impacted taxes such as the value-added tax.

The Revenue Department sent 827.93 billion baht to government coffers, 5.4% below target, but 1.3% more year-on-year. The Customs Department contributed 68.51 billion baht, 4.22% below target, but 1% more than last year.

Corporate income tax was lower than expected due to the economic slowdown and the excise tax collected on vehicles did not meet its target because of weak purchasing power, Mr Krissada said.
