Cho Thavee Dollasien Plc has won the bid worth around 1.7 billion baht to supply the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority with a new fleet of buses.

BMTA acting director Pranee Sugasorn said on Wednesday that CTD would sign the agreement to supply 489 natural gas-powered buses within 90 days after the contract is finalised.

Mrs Pranee did not disclose specifics of the firm's bid and said the BMTA would second lawyers to work out contract details, which still need to be approved by the board. The process will take about a month, she added.

The BMTA acting director said the first batch of 50 buses would be delivered by July and the rest by August to replace the BMTA's ageing fleet.

The BMTA has about 3,000 buses in service and all will be eventually replaced by new buses. The Transport Ministry has ordered the state enterprise to consider electric-powered buses in future purchasing.

Cho Thavee Dollasien, which is listed on the Market for Alternative Investment, is a joint venture between the Khon Kaen-based heavy vehicle distributor Cho Thavee and Doll Fahrzeugbau AG of Germany, with the Thai partner holding a 92% stake.
