A sarcastic message posted by Arthit Ourairat, president of Rangsit University, has further fueled the uproar over Siam Commercial Bank's discriminatory job ad.

A drama involving a job advertisement by Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) that seemed to discriminate against some universities has escalated on social media, with the president of Rangsit University making the latest foray.

Arthit Ourairat, president of Rangsit University, commented sarcastically on his Facebook page, thanking  the SCB for placing his university at the bottom of grade BB, or 34th place.

Mr Arthit’s comment flies in the face of the bank’s attempts to clear its image after an advertisement posted widely online offended many people. It indicated the SCB would recruit graduates only from 14 named universities to fill vacancies for trainee financial advisers.

In response, Rajabhat university, which has 40 campuses around Thailand, has decided in principle to end all financial dealings with the bank.

The Rajamangala University of Technology network is likely to follow Rajabhat’s example, and other universities are closely watching developments.

According to the SCB's official Facebook page, around 500 employees recruited by the bank since the beginning of 2014 have been from Rajabhat universities, or around 11.5% of its 4,348 new staff.

SCB employees from different branches posted their photos on the SCB Thailand Facebook page on Wednesday, with messages showing they are graduates of different colleges across the country. The images were no longer on the page on Thursday.

Facebook users are, however, still commenting below the SCB post. One user said he received a call from the bank but he declined, saying he did not graduate from any of the 14 universities and his grade point average was below 2.75.
