The Consumer Protection Board (CPB) is investigating alleged substandard construction and land subsidence at a Pruksa housing estate in Bangkok’s Phasicharoen district, following a complaint from residents.

Secretary-general Amphon Wongsiri on Thursday led a team of officials from the Phasicharoen district office, the Nong Khaem land office and the consumer protection agency to inspect Pruksa Ville 42 on Therd Thai-Kalapapruk Road, which was built by SET-listed developer Pruksa Real Estate Plc.

The inspection came after residents petitioned the CPB about construction problems at the housing estate, said Mr Amphon.

The complaints included substandard construction of dwellings that had developed cracks, poor facilities and land subsidence.

They complained that extra houses were built that were not on the housing estate’s design plan, a swimming pool was substandard and smaller than promised, and the facilities promised in the advertisements had not been provided.

Mr Amphon said officials would first inspect the housing estate and hear views from residents.

After the inspection, the consumers' team met representatives of Pruksa Real Estate to hear their explanations to the complaints. Residents and reporters were not allowed into the meeting.

On June 8, seven members of the housing estate committee aired the grievances of residents via several state agencies, complaining of substandard construction and subsidence.

Two days later, the real estate developer filed a lawsuit for damages against the housing estate committee members.
