With a better shopping mood expected during the coming festive season, Siam Paragon shopping mall is working hard to encourage shoppers to spend more in the final two months of this year.

Mayuree Chaipromprasith, senior executive vice-president for marketing at Siam Paragon Development Co, operator of the mall, will sign contracts with three major retailers in Britain, Singapore and China to offer privileges to their customers when they come to shop at Siam Paragon.

The company has already signed agreements with Parco Co of Japan and Taipei 101 Retail for dual privileges.

New international fashion shops will be added by year-end.

The company plans a 400-million-baht renovation of the Siam Paragon complex next year.

Chamnarn Maytaprechakul, an executive vice-president of Siam Paragon Retail Co, operator of Paragon Department Store, said his company had earmarked 100 million baht to arrange a special campaign with special offers to celebrate its 10th anniversary from now until Dec 18.

The campaign is expected to boost sales of Paragon Department store by 15% this year and increase the number of visitors to the entire shopping mall by 4-5% from the present 200,000 visitors a day.

Tourist confidence has returned to almost normal levels after the Aug 17 bombing of the Erawan Shrine.

"The political situation is now quite stable, and if there are no more uncontrollable factors, we're confident the shopping mood in this festive season will be better than last year," Mr Chamnarn said.

Meanwhile, Gaysorn is also preparing for the festive season, with more food and beverage shops opening by year-end.

Germany's 1823 Tea Lounge by Ronnefeldt opened its first international branch in Gaysorn recently, while a wine bar will open soon.

The move is part of efforts by Gaysorn to increase the revenue proportion from food and beverage to 30%, as it wants to encourage customers to spend more time in the mall for shopping and dining.

At the same time, an executive at MBK shopping centre said 90% of foreign tourists had returned to MBK.

The company plans a bigger promotional budget for activities planned for the final two months.

MBK, Siam Piwat and retail operators in Siam Square this month have banded together to boost the Siam Square shopping area and draw back tourists with joint campaigns.
