AoT to pay 7.5 months in salary as employee bonus

Airports of Thailand Plc is celebrating its record profits and passenger numbers by rewarding employees with a bonus equivalent of a whopping 7.5 months of salary.

The AOT board on Tuesday resolved to approve the payment of this year's bonus - a month's more in salary than paid last year -- after the company posted the largest annual profit in nearly 100 years of operation, said AoT board chairman Prasong Poontaneat.

"This year, passenger numbers grew to 106 million, surpassing capacity of several airports. This means employees have to work hard, resulting in the company making good profits. So we're paying higher bonuses to boost employee morale," Mr Prasong said.

From Oct 1, 2014 to Sept 30, 2015, the SET-listed airport operator's revenue increased more than 20% year-on-year from 40 billion baht. The number of passengers at the country's six major airports jumped by 33.5% to more than 106.8 million during the same period.

The number of air travellers passing through AoT's airports is expected to hit 165 million by 2020. AoT is spending 142 billion baht on several expansions, largely for Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang, to double its passenger capacity over the next five years to 165 million a year.
