Swedish furniture company IKEA on Friday opened its first "Pick-up and order point" in Asia, in Phuket province.

The store is on Chaloem Phrakiat Rama IX Road.

Thakoeng Banjongrak, pickup point manager of IKEA Thailand, said many people from Phuket bought products at the IKEA Bangna store in Samut Prakan province and had to pay for delivery to Phuket.

The Phuket  branch would capitalise on this demand, providing added convenience and lower costs for customers in an area of growing property development and tourism.

At the new outlet, customers could order any products available at IKEA Bangna, except live plants, and then collect them at the pickup point in five days.

The 175-million-baht premises cover an area of 2,615 square metres with parking for 15 vehicles at a time.
