Somkiat, managing director of SCC Tech Co, was found dead by colleagues in his Tokyo hotel room.

He had scheduled to attend a seminar entitled "Thailand: Moving Forward to Sustainable Growth" at which Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak would address almost a thousand Japanese investors.

Mr Somkid led a team of ministers and businesspeople to promote Thailand as the destination for Japanese investment.

Somkiat was recognised for his role in matching small and medium-sized businesses between Thailand and Japan as the association had signed two memorandums of understanding on business partnership with automobile-parts producers in Yamanashi and Tottori prefectures.
