Consumer confidence fell for the first time in four months in January due to economy's slow recovery, the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce said on Thursday.

The university surveyed 2,250 consumers nationwide in January. Based on the findings, its Thai Consumer Confidence Index dropped from 76.1 in December to 75.5 last month.

Consumers were concerned about slow Thai economic recovery, global economic problems, China's economic slowdown, lower global stock exchange indices, lower oil prices, declining exports, drought and low prices for farm products, the UTCC said.

The survey also found that the indices of consumers' confidence in the overall economy, job opportunities and future income fell from 65.1, 70.9 and 92.4 in December to 64.4, 70.3 and 91.7, respectively.
