GDH 559 teams up with Line TV

Line Thailand, a unit of Tokyo-based Line Corporation, has joined hands with film studio GDH 559 to produce entertainment content for its Line TV application.

The partnership is expected to double the viewership of Line TV to 200 million this year, up from 100 million last year.

Pallapa Manoch, senior manager and content business manager of Line Thailand, said the partnership was a mutual investment.

"We are confident in the professional content production of GDH 559, which has lengthy film production experience since it was GTH. We believe the exclusive content we will be producing together will surely be popular," she said.

Ms Pallapa said Line Thailand would help GDH 559 promote its TV series via the Line chat application, as it already has a strong customer base and can create public awareness through messages from its official account.

The first TV series produced by GDH 559 is Gasohug Rak Tem Tang, which is due to air on Line TV on Saturday.

Live TV last year aired TV series Stay Saga Chan Ja Kid Theung Ther produced by GMM Tai Hub Co (GTH).

GTH was shut down at the end of last year and two of its major shareholders, GMM Grammy and Hub Ho Hin Bangkok, formed GDH 559 early this year.

This year, Line Thailand and GDH 559 will jointly produce one more series and one game show to exclusively air on Line TV.

Last year, Hormones 3 The Final Season was broadcast as a rerun on the Line TV app and drew nearly 100 million views.

Live Thailand has worked with content providers such as GDH 559 and GMM Grammy's GMM and One channels. It plans to work with the operator of PPTV channel soon.

Last year, Line Thailand also joined hands with Grammy and RS to offer a music-streaming service in Thailand.

The Line TV app has had 7.5 million downloads in Thailand since it was officially launched in October 2014.

Line Corporation set up a research and development team for mobile applications and service in Thailand in late 2015.

Line users in Thailand total 33 million, the second highest in Asia after Japan.
