Trade ban on eight product groups

The Commerce Ministry has announced a ban on the import and export of eight product groups, including fake brand-name goods and elephant products.

The announcement, published in the Royal Gazette on Thursday, took effect on Wednesday.

The eight product categories are:

  • Fake brand-name or copycat products
  • Audio recording cassettes, compact discs, video tapes, computer programmes, books or other products which contain reproduced or modified copyrighted works of others
  • Shishas or hookahs and their electronic versions
  • Slot machines, as well as horse racing, pachinko and roulette machines, and other gaming machines operated by coins, both completely built or in parts
  • Elephants
  • Deity figures or parts, Buddha images and parts
  • Antiquities originated abroad
  • Caffeine
