Retailers expect shopping boom

The retail sector will continue to flourish and draw additional investment of up to 120 billion baht over the next five years, says the Thai Shopping Centres Association (TSCA).

President Naris Cheyklin said new international retailers including Aeon from Japan will soon enter the Thai market.

In the four months until the end of Jan 30, new shopping projects worth a combined 15 billion baht were announced to be developed in Bangkok and major provinces.

Projections, projections. I remember hearing the same thing in Athens a few years back.

Thailand is an export nation with a soaring currency, high minimum wage, and artificially stimulated economy. Global consumption continues to decline, neighboring nations offer cheaper labor and China has a massive overhang in productive capacity.

You want to make projections? Here's one: This party will and must end. History is on my side.
