Second-quarter blues for retailers

Negative sentiment is looming for Thailand's second-quarter retail figures on the back of the first-time car buyer scheme as well as the strong baht, which is driving more Thais to shop abroad. 

Retailers are seeing some signs of a slowdown as shoppers spend less.

But many retail operators have been feeling the pinch since late last year, when people rushed to buy cars for the tax rebate in the first-time car buyers scheme before it ended on Dec 31.
