Central Pattana Plc (CPN) plans to spend one billion baht on a facelift of the Central Pin Klao shopping centre in 2009.
Naris Cheyklin, the company's chief financial officer, said the 15-year-old shopping centre would be renovated to better fit the changing demographics of middle-income earners in Bangkok's Thon Buri district.
"We have to improve Central Pin Klao to meet the changing profile of customers in nearby areas. At the same time, we want our shopping complex to always be more modern and trendy," he said.
Central Pin Klao is the second biggest revenue generator for CPN after Central Lat Phrao. CPN will improve the food court, cinema area and fashion zone. Major Cineplex Group will replace EGV as Central Pin Klao's cinema operator.
Mr Naris said CPN was on track to achieve its performance targets for 2008 as shopper traffic at most Central sites had not fallen greatly. For example, CentralWorld attracts about 150,000 visitors every day and expects 200,000 over the New Year holidays.
The company also plans to convert CentralWorld's 2,000-square-metre Asian Sense area into a children's zone with tutoring schools and toy shops. This is scheduled to open in late 2009. Asian Sense currently sells souvenirs but the number of foreign shoppers has plummeted with the slump in tourism, he said.
CPN has also set aside 100 million baht to renovate the Junction X zones in 10 Central shopping plazas. The zones will be renamed Fashion Plus and will stock trendy and fashionable clothes for teenagers and young working people.
Shares of CPN closed yesterday on the SET at 14.30 baht, unchanged, in trade worth 26.32 million baht.
