TOT Plc and CAT Telecom have voiced concern that a proposed infrastructure-sharing plan may encourage private mobile phone operators to take over network infrastructure and lease it to new operators to do business.
The state telecom enterprises made the comment after the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) held a final hearing on infrastructure sharing on Tuesday prior to seeking board approval and publication in the Royal Gazette.
Supoj Tianwut, chairman of the NTC subcommittee on infrastructure sharing, said the draft had to be finished before the opening of the 3G auction on Sept 20 in order to reduce duplicate investment in networks and to utilise existing networks to the maximum.
