CAT Telecom vows to sue NTC

CAT Telecom says it will sue the National Telecommunications Commission in the Administrative Court for conducting the 3G licence auction without having the authority to do so, and causing it to lose 15 billion baht a year as a result.

It will also request a court injunction preventing the auction set for Sept 20 pending the formation of a single national regulator with sole authority over the matter.

CAT president Jirayut Rungsrithong said on Monday he would file the suit against the NTC on behalf of CAT's management, not the board to avoid criticism that the board had been pressured by its union to take action.

I think it is time for Thailand to auction itself as 3WC (Third World Country) not 3G. Everything here is going backward whether roads, street lights, telecommunication or politics.

"He said the lawsuit against the NTC was not intended to undermine the auction, but merely to protect the interests of the CAT, which he estimated would lose around 15 billion baht a year when the 3G service is launched because of increased competition"

So increased competition is frowned upon?
Protecting interests is what Thailand is all about..

The TOT and CAT are nothing but bloated, corrupt and incompetent leeches sucking their blood money from the telecommunications industry. If they were animals, they would be taken to the vets and put down.

By the time all the various government, telco operators, and other vested interests get on the same page why not just forget 3G and leap frog strait to the newer global standard 4G.

This place is becoming a joke. TOT and CAT should have been merged long ago and then privatised at the same time as allowing private operators into the fixed line and international call markets. It is bizarre that you can go to Cambodia and enjoy cheap and high quality 3G service whilst it is mostly unavailable here.

Thailand. What a basketcase country! Whenever anyone from the Thai elite try to talk up the greatness of the country and remind you that you don't "know anything about Thailand" because you are a foreigner--all you need to say is 3G--it is another reminder that the problem is not foreigners but Thais!

Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia all have 3G. Cambodia has 3G. Laos, for god's sake, has 3G.

    Thailand--no 3G

This is just another example of how politics in Thailand has come to serve the rich, powerful and corrupt at the expense of the people.
