Operators hope for continuation of logistics board

Logistics service providers are urging the government to continue a national logistics development committee chaired by the prime minister to strengthen competitiveness within the industry ahead of the advent of the Asean Economic Community (AEC) in 2015.
Paiboon Ponsuwanna, chairman of the Thai National Shippers' Council (TNSC), said the Asean Free Trade Area agreement stipulates that Thailand must allow Asean investors 70% ownership in logistics businesses in 2013.
The committee under the previous government had no clear goals for strengthening local logistics service providers that must compete with multinational operators and newcomers, he said.
