The hunt for larger spectra

Telecom operators in Asia Pacific including Thailand are hunting for more cellular spectra to accommodate skyrocketing data traffic as smartphone users proliferate, say leading telecom analysis firms.
Licences for fourth-generation (4G) technology on long-term evolution (LTE) are likely to appear this year.
Apple's iPad should continue to dominate the tablet market, while Nokia faces more challenges in the smartphone battle, said Marc Einstein, manager for the telecom industry at Frost & Sullivan. He expects the Thai telecom industry will face another transitional period this year, as trial services of 3G and 4G proceed.
