GlobeTech files lawsuit against Nokia, Navteq Solution
GlobeTech, the leading Thai digital mapping provider, has filed a lawsuit against Nokia (Thailand) and Navteq Solution (Thailand), accusing them of violating its copyright and seeking punitive damages of 540 million baht.
The legal case showed that digital map content is gaining momentum thanks to the proliferation of smartphones and tablet computers. The digital map market in Thailand worth more than 1 billion baht a year, with annual growth of 200-300% annually.
"This is the first legal case in which a Thai company has sued global firms [Nokia of Finland and Navteq of US]," said Wichai Saenghirunwattna, general manager of Globetech, a local map content provider under the CDG group.
