TOT faces deadline for 3G plan

Must implement first phase within 90 days

The new TOT board has given the state agency a 90-day deadline to implement the first phase of its third-generation (3G) service on a full-scale commercial basis.

It will also have to draft an investment plan for the second phase, which will see 15,000 to 18,000 base stations built to resolve service loopholes.

TOT is the only operator allowed to own rights and operate 3G service on the standard 2100-megahertz spectrum before the broadcasting and telecommunications regulator is established.

Instead of pretending to know how to run #G how about doing something useful like removing the thousands of broken down phone booths littering the cities sidewalks .They dont work and are an eyesore .If that is too difficult for you to organize let the scrappers do it .They could finish the job in a few days .

Quote: . .. Gp Capt Anudith Nakornthap, the information and communication technology minister, said "wrong policies" by the previous government had made TOT face a disaster.

    Goodness me ! ! ! Do you mean we cannot blame Thaksin/UDD for this ? ? ?

I have two home internet services from TOT and both work well. One is the phone line based wi fi for the family and I have a higher speed feed from a cable linked via "air" to a tower. Pretty good as far as I am concerned given the circumstances. It's not broadband, but quick enough to do most non commercial tasks. Sounds like a free plug... I guess it is.

TOT has been a lumbering SOE and should have been privatized to made it more efficient if not for the coup. Then the board of directors were poorly appointed consisting of military officers. The previous government further stalled the necessary infrastructure spending and left TOT and Thailand telecommunication lacking further behind our peers.

I would not bother with it if their 3G service is anything like their Internet DIS-service
