AIS gives nod to B13bn investment for 2013

The board of Advanced Info Service (AIS) has approved an investment budget of 13 billion baht for 2013 to invest in third-generation network construction.

The country's largest mobile operator, through subsidiary Advanced Wireless Network, expects to launch the first phase of its 3G services by June next year.

Vikrom Sriprataks, AIS's acting chief technology officer, said the company expects the 3G wireless broadband service on the international standard 2.1-gigahertz spectrum will significantly increase the country's mobile network capacity to serve data traffic, driven mainly by smartphones and tablets.
