DTAC 3G coverage accelerates

80% penetration seen a year ahead of plan

Total Access Communication (DTAC) has earmarked 25 billion baht for installation of its third-generation (3G) mobile network over the next three years as it accelerates its time frame for covering 80% of the population.

Abdullah: 3G will boost Thai economy

Thailand's second-largest mobile operator expects half its existing 2G subscriber base will migrate to the new 3G network on the international standard 2.1-gigahertz frequency within the first year of service.

I bought both true and dtac internet SIM while going back to Thailand , the problem is there are no signal in some area near DinChi Kalasin . even in the Somdet or Kalasin city , there is only edge .in Don Mueang , my sierra wireless show 3G signal but I can manage to get 60kbps .in subdistrit such as Kham Muang ,Kalasin , the edge is as slow as the modem dial up , you can not open multiple tab in the browser , as there is no way the page can loaded successfully , sometime the phone show no service after try to load some pages. in highway Khon Kaen to Bangkok , the speed is around 20kbps .I hope the operator can go to 4g , just skip 3g .

Always Remember; Quality Of Service (QOS) Is The Bottom Line!
Handset Manufactures use Chipsets That support Multi Base Station Frequencies and like the 2.1Ghz
Band Because the built in antenna is very small and cheap to manufacture.
The problem is they have very limited range and the QOS Stinks.
Is LTE Advanced Release 10 or above with carrier aggregation Included?(Or even talked about)
Either do it correctly or don't do it at all.

Covering 80% of the population ! Really ?? I'm thinking that 80% of the population are going to be included in the remaining 20%.

I expect that the mobile phone companies know that they should jump to 4G, but they have chosen not to do so. The reasons will probably be self-serving, such as it would cost them too much, it's not in their financial interests to do so, it would affect their share value, or whatever. They don't come out and explain any technical reasons for not upgrading the services to 4G, so I assume that they don't want us to know. The politicians are creaming off the top, so they have no interest in rocking the boat and demanding a faster service.

6G will be out and in parts of the world by the time we get 3G. Amazing Thailand...

    D1
Nah skip 4G and look at 5G. That way the country may catch up with the real world.

Always one train behind... they could have jumped from 2G directly to 4G technology; instead, it is going to take 2 years, if well understood, to implement the 3G... well, that is really amazing!! what are the true reasons behind that move? What's the point of this?

It's a waste of time with 3G; to cover 80% in 2 more years? Where are the forward looking people and planners. Still nothing but 2G now. Get real think 4G,4G,4G NOW!
