MCOT teams up with Korean IT company

MCOT Plc, the operator of Modernine TV, has teamed up with Intellicode Thai, the Thai operating unit of the South Korean IT solutions firm, in a bid to strengthen its media content and boost new revenue stream.

MCOT president Anek Permvongseni said the alliance is part of the state television channel's strategy of focusing on its new media business with the aim of generating 400 million baht in revenue this year.

Intellicode Thai is a joint venture between Korea Telecom, Softbank and Alticast Co. The company is a pioneer in the broadcasting technology sector holding a variety of copyrighted content.

Mr Anek said Intellicode Thai pledged to support MCOT during the country's transition to digital TV as well as changing consumer behaviour.

The collaboration also includes support to improve IT, apps running on mobile devices and smart TVs and the transition from analogue to digital.

Mr Anek said MCOT will jointly develop Soompi.th, a Thai-language version of South Korea's No.1 website.

Intellicode Thai will provide Korean entertainment content in Thailand exclusively for MCOT.

Mr Anek said content is the key factor in the new digital era.

"We expect to generate revenue of 65 million baht in the first year of cooperation," he said.

Hwang Byoung-woo, Intellicode Thai's chief executive, said the company is committed to bringing the latest advanced technology to the Thai market including Enswers Audio Recognition.

"We are looking for more foreign partnerships to seek more content, with the planned introduction of digital TV this year," he said.

MCOT is set to enter a partnership deal with MTV in Singapore to supply content by March.
