The increasing frequency of natural disasters and rising mobile data usage are driving strong demand for satellite services in Asia-Pacific, says Inmarsat, the global mobile satellite firm.
Mike Seery, the head of enterprise in Asia-Pacific for Inmarsat Services, said the use of remote sensing during natural disasters has become increasingly common, especially among researchers and scientists, leading to increased demand for near-real-time monitoring.
Research by the UN Office at Geneva and the Asian Development Bank shows natural disasters in South Asia and East Asia affected 65 million people and caused damage worth US$15 billion last year.
