1800-MHz auction to take place in 2014

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has tentatively set the third quarter of 2014 as the auction date for 25 megahertz of the 1800-MHz spectrum.

True Move, the No.3 mobile operator, and Digital Phone, a unit of Advanced Info Service, will have to return their 12.5 MHz each to the NBTC after their concessions under state-owned CAT Telecom expire on Sept 15.

Col Settapong Malisuwan, chairman of the NBTC's telecom committee, said clear migration rules must be settled by March to deal with the transition period after the concessions end.
