Local set-top box makers are eyeing Thailand as a production hub to supply digital TV receivers to other Southeast Asian countries.
Prapat Rathlertkarn, deputy secretary-general of the Thai Electrical, Electronics and Telecommunication Industries Association, said Asean will shift from analogue to digital TV and adopt the DVB-T2 broadcast system, the same standard used in Europe.
The switch will be complete by 2020. Asean households will need either a set-top box or a dedicated TV to receive digital signals.
