NBTC downplays CAT request

- +

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) will limit CAT Telecom's request for an additional 16 million mobile numbers to promote its third-generation (3G) service under contracts with True Corporation.

The watchdog said it may allocate only 5 million numbers to the state telecom enterprise for co-marketing 3G on the 850-megahertz frequency with Real Move, a subsidiary of True.

An NBTC member who asked not to be named said the regulator doubted CAT needed that many mobile numbers when the 3G network contracts between the state enterprise and True remain under scrutiny.
