The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has approved a draft regulation that aims to prevent a broadcast monopoly of sport programmes.
Col Natee Sukonrat, chairman of the NBTC's broadcasting committee, said the non-exclusive list rule will regulate companies that hold broadcasting rights for eight major sport events to allow others channels or platforms to broadcast them at fair sublicensing fees.
The events are the Universiade Games, football's Confederations Cup, the final round of football's Asian Cup and matches involving Thailand, Futsal World Cup, Futsal Asian Cup, Sepaktakraw World Championship, Volleyball World Championship and Davis Cup tennis (only involving Thai players).
Football's Thailand Premier League and Division One were proposed for the list but the committee rejected them.
Meanwhile, the subcommittee on broadcasting competition and regulation opposed a draft regulation on the auction method as it would still have some loopholes for collusion.
