Digital TV success puts Mono on track

Firm targets strong growth, SET listing

MAI-listed communications company Mono Technology Plc intends to double its revenue to 3 billion baht next year, driven mainly by its strong digital TV business.

Mono Technology chief executive Lee Sang-do (centre), chief operating officer Patompong Sirachairat (right) and Nawamin Prasopnet, managing director of Mono Broadcasting, attend a media briefing about the company's 2015 business plan.

The company also plans to move its stocks to be listed and traded on the main board next year.

Chief executive Lee Sang-do said Mono Broadcasting, its TV business unit, would be a big revenue generator for the whole group.

Mono has been encouraged by the success of Mono 29 Channel, which is ranked third among 24 digital TV channels after Workpoint TV and RS's Channel 8. Revenue from the channel will rise substantially from 150 million baht this year to 1 billion baht next year.

Its strategy to broadcast a lot of movies and series has been very successful and attracted good feedback from viewers who mostly reside in Bangkok and urban areas in major provinces.

Rural residents are next year's target group for Mono to expand its viewer base with marketing activities and Thai soap operas.

Its advertising rate will increase from an average of 5,000 baht a minute to 25,000 baht next year.

Channel 8 will raise its rate to 60,000 baht a minute next year and adjust its programming.

"We have proven that we are a high-potential player on the digital TV battlefield," Mr Lee said.

He said Mono had earmarked 1.5 billion baht for content development for the TV and movie businesses.

Some 300 million baht will finance construction of a 12-rai studio complex, while the rest will fund the production of Thai series and other content.

The investment budget will come from the 2.9 billion baht it has raised since last year.

If Mono 29 Channel can achieve its target revenue of 1 billion baht next year, the TV arm will break even in late 2015.

The success of Mono Broadcasting will help Mono to move its stock listing to the Stock Exchange of Thailand early next year and be among the top five listed media and entertainment companies.

Mono has a big project to produce content jointly with a giant broadcaster in China's Yunnan province to serve the latter's Chinese TV channel.

Mono plans to drive its movie arm as a leading studio and produce four movies next year. It will also host a radio station, Fresz 91.5 FM, to air Thai and other songs.

Mr Lee said mobile service business remained its main revenue contributor at 43% of the total, followed by TV (32%), the internet (8%), publishing (5%), movies (4%), music (3%) and miscellaneous (5%).

Mono achieved nine-month revenue of 1.12 billion baht for a net profit of 65.2 million.

MONO shares closed yesterday on the MAI at 3.68 baht, unchanged, in trade worth 7 million baht.
