The ICT ministries of three Asean members plus South Korea have expressed interest in participating in the development of Thailand's digital infrastructure.

The collaboration is aimed at supporting ecosystem development, creating innovation-driven smart cities and promoting the digital economy.

ICT Minister Uttama Savanayana said he attended a formal bilateral meeting last week with the ICT ministers of Japan, Vietnam, Singapore and South Korea.

The talks took place at the 15th Asean Telecommunications and IT Ministers Meeting in Vietnam.

Mr Uttama said the four ICT ministers were interested in participating in the development of the digital economy.

"Another meeting will be held soon before a formal cooperation agreement is signed," he said.

Mr Uttama said Vietnam was interested in developing e-commerce including building an online dispute resolution centre and developing smart cities.

Japan offered to collaborate on cybersecurity and a warning system for disaster risks.

South Korea proposed investing in core infrastructure projects including smart cities and centralised data centres as well as jointly developing and promoting the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises and tech start-ups.

Singapore wants to develop cybersecurity standards jointly to increase confidence in e-commerce.

It is also interested in supporting the development of smart cities and tech start-ups.

Mr Uttama said the potential for cooperation among the countries was in line with the Asean ICT Master Plan 2020.

The plan is aimed at transforming the countries into innovation-driven economies and serving the digital economy.
