NokScoot's fifth BKK-Taipei

NokScoot's fifth BKK-Taipei

No-frills airline NokScoot is ramping up its Bangkok-Taipei service with the introduction of an additional weekly flight to cater to stronger demand.

The fifth weekly flight will commence on Feb 18 and operate every Saturday, supplementing NokScoot's services on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday.

The additional flight has been launched largely to support strengthened travel demand from the republic to the Kingdom, according to insiders.

Demand is spurred by Thai authorities' move to waive visa fees for Taiwanese citizens, from Dec 1 last year to Feb 28 this year, as part the Kingdom's overall tourism stimulus drive.

The suspension of TransAsia Airways' low-cost carrier subsidiary V Air and the resultant cancellation of Taipei-Bangkok service from Oct 1 last year has also reduced capacity on the route, which can be captured by other operators.

The Saturday flight is being offered with promotional fare, starting from 1,999 baht one-way for an economy-class seat and 3,699 baht in business class until tomorrow.

The fares represent discounts from those charged by the NokScoot flights on other days, which start from 2,299 baht one-way in economy and 4,099 baht in business class.

The new Saturday flight will depart from Bangkok's Don Mueang airport at 1:45am and arrive at Taipei's Taoyuan airport at 6:25am.

The return flight leaves Taoyuan at 9:40am and arrive in Don Mueang at 12:40pm.

The airline, a joint venture between budget carrier Nok Air and Singapore Airlines' no-frills Scoot, launched four flights a week between Don Mueang and Taoyuan airports on Oct 25, 2015.

NokScoot will continue to use Boeing 777-200 wide-body jets, of which there are three in its entire fleet, on the additional Taipei flight.
