The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) has seen progress in setting Thai Mice venue standards while encouraging other countries in Southeast Asia to jointly develop Asean Mice standards.
TCEB president Nopparat Maythaveekulchai said there are six key areas of focus in the 2015-19 master plan for Thai Mice venue standards.
The first is to develop the standards of Mice (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions) venues in Thailand to meet international standards, followed by enhancing the capability of Mice professional standards through venue management training courses for Mice executives.
Third, the TCEB will develop the Thailand Mice venue database through the E-directory system, where organisers can conveniently access and search for accredited venues.
Fourth, the TCEB will promote accredited venues among public and private organisations, as well as propose that the government initiate a policy to support accredited venues.
Fifth, the bureau will drive Thailand Mice venue standards to be widely recognised and encourage other Asean countries to jointly develop Mice venue standards in the region.
Sixth, it will drive and sustain Thailand Mice venue standards in the long-term by working with key stakeholders to help educate and encourage Mice venue operators to join the Thailand Mice Venue Standard (TMVS) programme.
"Driving Thailand's position as the premiere Mice destination in Asean through the development of the Mice Standardisation Strategy is very important as it is in line with the country's 20-year Mice strategy," said Mr Nopparat.
Nichapa Yoswee, director of the Mice capabilities department, said the TMVS programme will further expand to cover Mice venues in major cities such as Pattaya, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen and Hat Yai.
"TCEB is confident the readiness of Thai Mice ventures will draw more Mice organisers to host events in Thailand," she said.
TCEB yesterday announced the results for the nationwide adoption of Mice venue standards, naming 101 venues that have been received TMVS certification in 2017.
This year, TCEB projects Thailand will welcome 1,109,000 Mice visitors, generating more than 101 billion baht revenue.
